The Okanagan provides cycling enthusiasts with beautiful cycling weather from late April to early September. The Okanagan receives much milder temperatures than other areas in BC and is often reffered to as "Canada's Napa Valley" or "Hawaii of the North". Spring TimeIf you like sunshine you will love the Okanagan as it is known for lots of sun and hot summer time temperatures. Lake Okanagan which is the largest body of water in the area stetches for more than 169 Km (104 mi.) and in places reaches a depth of more than 300 metres (990 feet). Along the lake many beaches can be found which is a perfect way to cool down after a long bike ride! While temperatures are on the hot side, the Okanagan has very low humidity making the warm temperatures enjoyable. Evenings can will be cooler but overall enjoyable. Most areas in the Okanagan lie in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountain Range at the northern most tip of the Sonora Desert. This results in a dry, semi-arid steppe climate. If it does rain, it usually never lasts for more than a couple of hours at a time. Plus most of the area is sandy so rain soaked trails dry very quickly. Summer months in the Okanagan can be hot and very sunny. |
